How to say "I want to..."

When you want to say some action/verb that you want to do in Japanese, you use the たい(tai) form:

verb stem* + たい(tai) + です(desu)

Ex. 食べ + たい + です = 食べたいです

Once you've conjugated it in the tai form, you have one more step. Conjugate it into a tense. Conjugate the way you would with です.

Ex.食べたいです. tabenaidesu

I want to eat.

If you want to say that you don't want to do something, use this form instead:

verb stem* + たくない(takunai) + です(desu)

Ex. 話 + たくない + です = 話たくないです

Once again, conjugate it like you would with です.

Ex. 行たくないです. itakunaidesu

I don't want to go.

*the verb stem is just the verb without it's last hiragana character

One last thing. This form can only be used when you want to do something, meaning that you can't say that you want something like I want an apple. That is an entirely different format that will be talked about in the future.

We'll get there eventually, but that is it for now.

Sayounara!
